The Early Years
The Beatles began their career in Liverpool, England, in the early 1960s. The band originally consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Stuart Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe left the band in 1961 and was replaced by Ringo Starr.
The Beatles' early sound was influenced by rock and roll, skiffle, and blues. They played their first gig at the Casbah Coffee Club in Liverpool in 1961. In 1962, the band signed with Parlophone Records and released their first single, "Love Me Do."
The Beatles' early years were marked by a series of successful singles, including "Please Please Me," "From Me to You," and "She Loves You." In 1964, the band released their first album, Please Please Me, which topped the charts in the UK and the US.
