The most common symptom of LS is colorectal cancer, which typically occurs in people between the ages of 40 and 50. Other symptoms include:

  • Renal pelvis cancer

Diagnosis of Lynch syndrome

Lynch syndrome is diagnosed based on a combination of factors, including:

  • Family history of Lynch syndrome

  • Genetic testing

Genetic testing is the most accurate way to diagnose LS. It can be performed on saliva or blood.

Treatment of Lynch syndrome

The treatment of LS depends on the type and stage of cancer. Surgery is the most common treatment for LS-associated cancers. Other treatment options include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy.

Prevention of Lynch syndrome

There is no way to prevent LS, but there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of developing LS-associated cancers. These include:

  • PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome: A rare condition that is characterized by hamartomas and an increased risk of developing cancer.
  • Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcaba syndrome: A rare condition that is characterized by hamartomas and an increased risk of developing cancer.
  • MYH-associated polyposis: A rare condition that is characterized by multiple polyps in the colon and an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer.
  • Familial adenomatous polyposis: A rare condition that is characterized by multiple polyps in the colon and an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer.

Living with Lynch syndrome

Living with LS can be challenging, but there are things that you can do to cope with the condition. These include:

  • Getting regular cancer screenings
  • Taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Eating a healthy diet
  • Getting regular exercise
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Joining a support group
  • Talking to a therapist
